Friday Fodder – Priorities

Once upon a time…

Jack and Rose heard news that the pandemic quarantine restrictions were finally to be lifted. They had been confined to their home for 9 months under strict regulations in the area. They couldn’t wait to get out to see their family and friends again. When Rose came out of the house, she saw three old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. ‘They look like wizards’ she thought as she walked up to greet them.

“Hello” said Rose, “I don’t think I know you. Are you hungry? Please come inside and have something to eat.”

“We do not go into a house together,” they replied.

“Really? Why is that?” she asked.

One of the old men explained: “His name is Wealth,” he said, pointing to one of his friends, and then waving his boney finger towards the other one, “He is Success, and I am Love. Which one of us would you like in your home?”

Rose raced inside to tell her husband. Jack was overjoyed. “This is incredible!”, he said. “Let’s invite Wealth. With the pandemic, business isn’t what is used to be. Invite him in to fill our home with wealth!”

Rose disagreed. “Jack, we should invite Success! With success the business will boom like never before. I think we should invite success”

Their 4 year-old daughter put down her colouring pens and said, “Mummy? Daddy? Why don’t we invite Love? Then our home will be filled with love!” Rose and Jack scooped up the girl and gave her the biggest hug.

“She’s right” said Rose. “Go out and invite Love in to be our guest.”

Jack went out and asked the three old men, “Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest.” Love stood up and started walking toward the house. The other two also stood up and followed him. Surprised, Jack said, “I thought you couldn’t come into the house together.”

The old men replied “If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would’ve stayed out. Since you invited Love, wherever he goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success!”

“Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least.”

– Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Moral of the Story:

Empty pockets never held anyone back. Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that. When we know love matters more than anything, and we know that nothing else really matters, we move into the state of surrender. Surrender does not diminish our power, it enhances it. The essence of who we truly are is Pure Love. Love is the secret of our existence. Absolutely nothing of human greatness is ever accomplished without it. Not a symphony has been written, a mountain climbed, an injustice fought, or a passion fulfilled. Love fuels our search for the life we prize.

Our humanity comes to its fullest bloom in giving. We become beautiful people when we give whatever we can give: a smile, a handshake, a kiss, an embrace, a word of love, a present, a part of our life … all of our life. You will find as you look back upon your life that the moments when you have truly lived are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love. The real measure of your wealth is how much you’d be worth if you lost all your money. You may have lost your way temporarily but don’t lose sight of what matters most on your journey back to happiness. When you are loved, you can do anything in creation. When you are loved, there’s no need at all to understand what’s happening, because everything happens within you.

“Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. There is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of filling a vacuum, it makes one.”

— Benjamin Franklin

Affirmation: I am loved unconditionally and beyond comprehension.

I love and accept myself exactly as I am right now. My past does not predict my future. I am more and more abundant each day. I am worthy of love and deserve to receive love in abundance. I attract loving and caring people into my life. I am capable of loving fully and completely. I listen to my inner voice and trust my intuition. I trust in my ability to make it through difficult times. I see my struggles as opportunities to grow and learn. I believe in my abilities and unique gifts. I develop them with patience. I have the power to make good things happen. The more I learn and take action, the more good I can do in this world. Love rejuvenates me and gives me the energy I need to keep going.

“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off you.”

Maya Angelou
