Once upon a time…
There were five little green frogs sitting on a lily pad, catching some most delicious bugs. Yum-Yum. One little green frog decided to jump off. How many frogs do you think are left?
If your answer is “four”, you can thank your primary school maths teacher for your excellent mathematical ability. Unfortunately, this is not a test of your subtraction skills. It’s a life problem.
The correct answer is “five”. Yes, all five little green frogs are still sitting there on the lily pad. That one thoughtful frog made the decision to jump, but hasn’t yet executed.
Just then, a giant hungry crocodile burst out of the pond and snapped up all five frogs! Yum-Yum.
“Take time to deliberate, but when the time for action comes,
stop thinking and go in.”
― Napoleon Bonaparte
Moral of the Story:
Life is not a spectator sport; it is indeed a contact sport and there are no practice sessions. You’ve been in the game from day one. The journey starts with a single step, not by thinking about taking that step. Be the frog who not only decides to jump off the lily pad but actually jumps. Take that big leap forward without hesitation, without once looking back. Simply forget the past and forge toward the future.
You can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do. The minute you hesitate you are in trouble. Fear causes hesitation, and hesitation will cause your worst fears to come true. In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing. Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action.
“My father taught me that you can read a hundred books on wisdom and write a hundred books on wisdom, but unless you apply what you learned then its only words on a page. Life is not lived with intentions, but with action.”
― Shannon Alder
